FFRP guides for trails within and near major cities in France, including:
Amiens (see Nord), Arles (see Languedoc), Arras (see Nord), Auxerre (see Burgundy), Chateauroux (see Centre), Dinan (see Brittany), Fontainbleu (see Paris), Le Mans (see Loire), Lille (see Nord), Lyon (see Rhône Alpes), Marseille (see Provence), Nancy (see Alsace-Lorraine), Paris (see Paris), Rennes (see Brittany), St-Malo (see Brittany), Strasbourg (see Alsace-Lorraine), Toulouse (see Midi-Pyrenees), Tours (see Centre)

The best trail guides for walking in France's countryside are by the FFRP (La Federation Française de la Randonnée Pédestre), a hiking organization which oversees the vast network of 110,000 plus miles of trails that crisscross France, including the long distance GR paths. We recommend getting IGN's #903 map which shows all of these trails.

FFRP trail guides vary in size from 70 - 200 pages, with the average being 125 pages. Each one has an overview of the area, including its history and special natural features (animals, birds, plants, trees, etc.), practical tips for hiking the trail, lodging information and tips, color photographs (in the newer guides), IGN maps, and detailed trail descriptions. Those noted with a GR designation are for long distance trails, beginning to end. Whereas, those with the words "à pied" listed within the title, center around day hikes within a specific geographic area. Although the FFRP guides are in French, they are fairly easy to decipher with a bi-lingual dictionary or you may want to employ our translation services.

FFRP trail guides vary in price from $17.95-$44.95 per title with most costing in the $22.95 - $30.95 range. Prices are subject to change based on fluctuations of the dollar to the Euro (see note below at * ). The price listed in parentheses is the price based on one euro equaling 1.32 dollars. Please request current price when placing your order as euro has been as high as 1.58 in 2008.

Please note: We keep only the most popular titles in stock. If we do not have it, FFRP guides are a special order from France. There is a 50% cancellation fee if you cancel your order for any reason as the FFRP does not allow us to return items.

If a title is listed as TU (Temporarily Unavailable), it means that the FFRP is updating this title and will release a new edition in the future. If needed immediately, we may still have the older edition. We may also be able to obtain a used copy for you from one of the French hiking clubs or a used book supplier. Let us know if you want us to do that for you versus waiting for the new edition which may take up to 12 months to receive. Contact us before ordering to check availability/publication release schedule.

If you used a FFRP title in the past and do not see it here, it may be Out-of-Print. View our FFRP Out-of-Print page. We may be able to obtain these titles through the above noted sources.

* Due to the extreme devaluation of the dollar to the Euro over the past two years, costing as high as $1.58 for one euro, expect FFRP guides on your order to be priced several dollars higher (price variations depends on what we pay for the title) until we see better parity of the dollar to the Euro. We regret this increase, but it is economics. Without maintaining our minimum profit margin (our cost is split with you), we can no longer bring these guides to you. It is our pledge to keep your costs down as much as possible.

This page is arranged alphabetically by region and alphabetically by location within the region. If you click on an underlined region title for the guides listed below, it will take you to a regional web page that shows the cover and/or a map of the trail(s) that each guide covers. This is a new and evolving project, so check back with us to see what we have added (We only have Alsace-Lorraine-FrancheComte and Brittany (partially) done so far.). If you need to see the routes a guide covers, we can also e-mail you the cover/map route image.
