Trail Guides and Guide Books
IGN's latest map series, new in June 2011, is the Top 75 series (1:75,000 scale). The six titles currently in the series are centered in the French Alps. See our IGN page for more information. These maps are $20.95. (06/17/2011)
We are stocking the entire line of Le Guide Rando, a series of trail guides by Rando Editions, geared to day or weekend hikers. Each colorful, spiral bound guide which allows you to fold the book out flat, gives a ton of information about each trail from elevation gain charts, text, maps, photographs, specific tips for each trail (what to be aware of such as bad signage, fog, rocky, etc.). The 45 - 60 trails showcased in each book are divided into four skill categories: stroller, walker, hiker, experienced hiker. There are 17 titles in this series, most centered on locations in the Pyrénée Mountains and French Alps. They range in price from $24.95 - $32.95.(06/17/2011)
Une ville et ses environs maps by IGN, new in April 2011, cover 15 of the largest cities in France with expansion into the suburbs and surrounding rural areas where you will find hiking paths. Each map contains three scales; 1:80,000 scale for the city portion, 1:13,000 for close-ups, and a 1:25,000 scale excerpt showing hiking paths in the area. These maps are $17.95. (4/11/2011)

We now stock the Le P'tit Crapahut series geared to families who are interested in short day hikes. The locations include three titles for Brittany and several titles for locations near/in the French alps and Provence. For each walk, the left side page is a map with the right page describing the walk from beginning to end. (10/15/2010)
We are also selling the Paris est a nous series which centers around a variety of themes (best bakeries, best places for terrace dining, best excursions outside of Paris; more than 30 titles in this series.(09/17/2010)

The 2009 versions of
Gites de Etampes et Sejours, Logis de France, and Michelin Red France guides will be available sometime in late Februrary/early March according to the publishers. These are the best guides for lodging in France and offer everything from simple dorms to country, family-run hotels, to elaborate 5 star hotels. These go fast, so pre-order now. IGN has issued a new series of maps called Balades en Forêt. A 1:50,000 scale map highlights trails/paths/streets for hiking and cycling in nationaly protected forests. The locations for the series are forests in the Paris area (St-Germain, Fountainbleu) or Provence (Ventoux, Luberon).(11/30/2008)
Three new titles, Chemin de St-Jacques, Central Pyrenees, and Vanoise, have been added to our Rother Guides list. This German publisher puts out excellent hiking guides, most in English, for various parts of France and Europe. (08/03/2008)
We now sell cycling guides that can also be used for hiking as most routes follow secondary and farm/forest roads. Check out Le Pays des Chateaux: Chambord et ses Environs which includes 12 day trip circuits plus two weekend routes. (06/03/2008)

Our latest guide received is Le Train en France, a spiral-bound guide that shows all of the train lines in France, including a special feature about the new TGV Est line. Most hikers will use the SNCF rail system for their trailhead and terminus. This guide will help show you the nearest stations to those points. It sells for $19.95. (08/05/07)
