Michelin Maps


Although not as intensive as the IGN (They lack the contours and smaller details of the IGN Blue and Green series.), Michelin still offers some of the best maps for driving in France. Please note: Michelin has a bad habit of discontinuing items. So, when you order, ask us if the product still exists as listed on this page.

France general maps
These maps, which cover all of France, are 1:1,000,000 scale unless otherwise noted and vary in price.

 France regional maps
Please note: These are locations named by Michelin, not the official administrative region; some regions are combined. These maps are 1:200,000 scale and are $8.95 each. Newly numbered and named as the 500 series, they replace ones formerly in the 200 series. France detailed driving maps
In August 2002, Michelin replaced their 1:200,000 scale series (#051 - #090) with a new series (numbered in 300s) with a variable scale from 1:150,000 - 1:175,000. They are $7.95 each. Tell us where you are going and we will recommend the map(s) you need.

France Départementales maps
These maps are 1:150,000 scale and $7.95 each. To order these maps, just send us the name of the department or its number (See IGN Department maps index; same numbers apply).

France Alentours maps
These maps are 1:150,000 scale and $7.95 each. They cover 75 kilometers (46.5 miles) out from the cities noted below.

France Mediterranean maps
These maps focus on the Mediterranean coast of France and the Provence region located north of the coast. They vary in scale and are $8.95 each. Paris and environs maps
These maps focus on Paris and the Ile de France region around it. They vary in scale and price.

Michelin France books
Michelin publishes several guidebook series plus a few individual titles.

Their annual "Red" guide lists the hotels and restaurants for every city, town, and many of the villages in France. Maps are included for the larger locations. It sells for $26.00. There is also a separate "Red" guide for Paris ($12.00).

Their "Green" guidebook series covers all the regions in France and is available in both English and French (more titles). If you want detailed information about France, these are the guides you need. They sell for $20.00 each.

Their small "In Your Pocket" series are guides with abbreviated information for selected regions in France such as Brittany, Rivieria, and Paris. They sell for $9.95 each.

For those that love camping trailer/RV style, as well as tenting, their annual Camping and Caravaning guide is a necessity as it lists all the campgrounds in the country. It sells for $16.00.

New! Michelin Charming Places to Stay, $15.95. This new guide for 2003 lists 1,000 hotels and guesthouses in France for less than 80 euros/day. Color photograph of each entry.
